Non-emergency Patient Transport Service for Mid and South Essex

Updated: Jul 25

In October '21 the five NHS clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in mid and south Essex announced the provider of a new seamless patient transport service for eligible patients.

Eligible patients are those living in Mid Essex, Basildon and Brentwood, Castle Point and Rochford, Southend and Thurrock.

From Friday, 1 April, this service will be operated by Health Transportation Group UK (HTG-UK) as part of a new five-year contract.

HTG-UK, formerly Thames Ambulance Service, have been providing patient transport services in Essex for more than 30 years and are the current contract holders for Basildon and Brentwood, Mid Essex and Thurrock CCGs. This new contract means HTG-UK will be providing the service across the whole of mid and south Essex which now includes Castle Point and Rochford and Southend CCG areas.

HTG-UK will bring a range of enhancements to the service which will benefit our patients and healthcare partners. For example, patients will now be able to receive updates on their transport sent directly to their mobile phone. Ambulance crews will also be taking part in dementia training programmes using virtual reality technology so they can better understand the needs of the patients in their care.
