Norovirus cases are currently higher than normal across mid and south Essex

Updated: Apr 3

Vomiting and diarrhoea? Stay hydrated, take paracetamol if needed, prevent spread, stay at home until 2 days after symptoms stop. There's no specific cure for stomach bugs like norovirus. Treat yourself at home while the virus runs its course.

Norovirus cases are currently higher than normal across mid and south Essex, particularly affecting those over the age of 65.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. If you catch norovirus, it’s important to rest and have plenty of fluids. You should stay at home until two days after your symptoms stop and wash your hands to prevent the spread of infection. You should avoid visiting hospitals and care homes, and should not return to work or school, until 48 hours after your symptoms have stopped.
