We undertook a local sample survey of care homes and home care agencies to see whether they were having any problems getting supplies of PPE during COVID-19
Purpose
Because of worries about the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the coronavirus crisis, Healthwatch Southend undertook a sample survey of care homes and home care agencies to see whether they were having any problems getting supplies of PPE and whether the advice on its use was clear and helpful. We found that although there had been some problems, those organisations we spoke to were now getting the supplies they needed. There was confusion about the public health advice, however. We had also asked beforehand about the discharge of patients from hospital where PPE might be needed in a home. We sent our report to the Council and were sent a response. We will monitor the situation over the next few weeks.
Please note that we only looked at a sample of organisations on a couple of days at the end of April.
