Westcliff Medical Centre has been given notice by its landlord that the building premises needs to be vacated by 31 January 2026.
The practice has been looking for alternative locations to ensure this change has the least impact on patients and their access to local services.
The proposal to minimise patient impact
Westcliff Medical Centre has identified an opportunity to relocate to nearby Valkyrie Primary Care Centre. The Centre has space to accommodate all Westcliff Medical Centre staff and patient services. This option would ensure existing services could continue in a nearby location, and that patients have continuity of care. Valkyrie Primary Care Centre is a 6-minute walk, 0.3 mile away on Valkyrie Road.
This move would see Westcliff Medical Centre operating from the building also used by Valkyrie Surgery as well as Southend West Central Primary Care Network (PCN) to deliver some patient services – so many patients will already be familiar with this location.
Under the proposed solution, patients would remain registered with the Westcliff Medical Centre and would not need to take any further action in order to keep accessing primary care services.
What happens now?
The local NHS wants to hear the views of patients about this change. You can use the link below to complete a survey, or collect a paper copy from the Westcliff Medical Centre.
The survey closes on 23 December 2025. After hearing from patients, the GP practice will need to submit an application to NHS Mid and South Essex regarding this change. This will outline why they want to move to Valkyrie Primary Care Centre and show how they will continue to meet the needs of registered patients. This will include key messages from the patient engagement exercise. Any application by a GP practice to move location is subject to approval by the local NHS, and more information on the process is available at GP services FAQ.
