We caught up with Charlene to see what she likes most about volunteering with us.

Being part of a team

"For the last 14 years I have been working in the insurance industry and unfortunately became sick. This resulted in most of my time being spent in hospital or at hospital appointments, and I couldn’t commit to my full time job.

For the time I spent at home, I found I was losing myself and my drive and I asked my health care co-ordinator for assistance in finding a position which could cater for my medical conditions and in turn fill me with purpose again. This is where I was accepted as a volunteer for the Healthwatch team where I get to work with an amazing team of people.

What I get up to

"My day to day tasks include inputting all sorts of interesting data from surveys, making and answering telephone calls to clients, and any other administration duties required of me. Not only have I found purpose again but I have found a sense of giving back to my community.

Healthwatch has opened my eyes to what services are available to everyone and has enabled me not only to help my community but my friends and even myself.

How Healthwatch has helped me

"Healthwatch Southend enabled me to access the patient transport I needed for a hospital appointment which would have ended up being of great personal cost had I not known of the service.

Overall the experience has been eye opening, enjoyable and rewarding."
