The standards for pharmacy professionals have been updated...
A message from the General Pharmaceutical Council...
I wanted to share with you new standards for pharmacy professionals, which come into effect today.
These are the core standards that all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Great Britain will have to meet to ensure that people using pharmacy services receive safe and effective care and to uphold public trust and confidence in pharmacy.
Over the past two years we have engaged with thousands of pharmacy professionals, professional bodies, stakeholders and members of the public in an effort to review and update the standards.
Based on the feedback we received, we have developed nine new standards for pharmacy professionals.

These new standards reflect the attitudes and behaviours that people using pharmacy services, and pharmacy professionals, told us were important. There is a greater focus on person-centred care; more emphasis on leadership and professional responsibility; and on raising concerns.
We believe these standards provide the framework and support to help pharmacy professionals provide high-quality care to people – now and in the future – by relying on their knowledge, skills and professionalism.
We would ask you to share the new standards with your networks, to help people using pharmacy services to know what they can expect from pharmacy professionals.
We have also developed a host of resources and reference materials to help you to promote the standards, including a newsletter article and presentation. Please visit www.pharmacyregulation.org/spp to view these materials and resources.
Thank you in advance for your help in promoting the new standards.
