Major Incident at Southend Hospital - 13/12/2016


Message from Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust:

Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has declared a major incident due to a large diesel fuel leak on the third floor of the Cardigan Wing.

The Fire Service are in attendance and working with hospital staff to manage the incident.

The safety of patients and visitors is our absolute priority at this time. Patients and visitors have been evacuated from affected areas and additional areas have been partially evacuated as a precaution.

Our Emergency Department is closed and ambulances are being diverted to other hospitals in the region. We are asking patients and visitors to please stay away from the hospital at this time to allow the emergency services to safety manage the incident.

Further updates will be released as we have them.

Please help us at this time by not contacting us for updates and by publicising the closure of the hospital to patients in the region.
