Can you spare some time to support Southend Hospital?

CAN YOU SPARE SOME TIME TO SUPPORT YOUR HOSPITAL?

Good environments matter. A clean environment is the foundation for lower infection rates, whilst good food promotes recovery and improves the patient experience. High standards of privacy promote patient dignity, and good maintenance and décor support a safe and comfortable stay. But good environments don’t just happen. Without the efforts of all staff, the benefits of cleanliness, good food, privacy and proper maintenance may be lost.

Patient led assessments of the care environment (PLACE) help organisations understand how well they are meeting the needs of their patients, and identify where improvements can be made. They take place across all hospitals, hospices and independent treatment centres providing NHS funded care and use information gleaned directly from assessors to report how well an organisation is performing – in terms of national standards and against other similar organisations.

These PLACE inspections formally assess how the hospital environment supports privacy and dignity of patients, as well as hospital cleanliness and building maintenance. They are undertaken by hospital staff and local people who may have been hospital users at some point in time.

We will be conducting PLACE assessments on the 18th, 19th, 20th & 25th April. Each assessment will take a few hours and you can volunteer for just one session if that suits you. If you are willing to take part or require further information, please contact Hayley Beare Hayley.beare@southend.nhs.uk or Sarah Fowler on sarah.fowler@southend.nhs.uk.

Before each session starts there will be a run through of the process for any new members; for those that have been a part of the process before any changes will be identified; and then time for any questions or comments that you may have.
